Lagos State Government has arrested three individuals for illegal disposal of refuse along the Ikotun–Igando Road median in the state.
The state Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed this in a statement posted on his X handle on Tuesday.
According to Wahab, the arrests followed early morning operations conducted on Monday by the Lagos Waste Management Authority Waste Infractions Surveillance and Investigation Team, as part of ongoing efforts to address waste blackspots along the corridor.
“As a result of these operations, three individuals were apprehended for disposing of refuse illegally at the road median along Ikotun Igando Road.
“The apprehended individuals have been transferred to the LAWMA legal team at the Oshodi Mobile Court for further legal proceedings,” the commissioner stated.
The suspects were identified as Muosolu Ogochukwu, 35 (female); Adedigba Kazeem, 35 (male); and Isaac Monday, 24 (male).
Wahab reiterated the state government’s commitment to enforcing environmental laws and sustaining cleanliness across Lagos, warning residents against indiscriminate waste disposal.
This operation follows a series of similar crackdowns in December.
PUNCH Online reported last week that Lagos State Government launched a manhunt for suspected hoodlums who attacked and injured four officials of the State Environmental Sanitation Corps during an enforcement operation at a restaurant in the Victoria Island area.
The government also said it had arrested the supervisor of the restaurant and sealed the facility until further notice.
According to Wahab, a joint team of the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office and the environmental sanitation corps had visited the restaurant for a follow-up enforcement after the facility was earlier sealed for allegedly discharging untreated wastewater, fats and oils into the environment.
