The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), alongside several civil society organisations, on Wednesday staged a protest in Lagos over the worsening insecurity across the country.

The protest, which took place in the state capital, saw the demonstrators march from Ikeja towards the Lagos State Government House, drawing attention to what they described as the persistent failure of authorities to protect lives and property.

Carrying placards and banners, the protesters demanded urgent action from the Federal Government to stem the tide of killings, kidnappings and other violent crimes spreading across Nigeria.

One of the banners read, “Federal Government No More Excuses And Rhetorics. End Insecurity Now!”

Another banner declared, “Nigeria is Bleeding, stop the criminality now.”

The protesters also emphasised the constitutional obligation of the state to guarantee safety, with another inscription stating, “Security is a fundamental human rights.” 

The march, led by the NLC in collaboration with civil society groups, attracted workers, activists and concerned residents, as they moved through major roads in Ikeja en route to the governor’s office, calling for immediate and concrete measures to address the country’s security crisis. 

The protest adds to growing nationwide pressure on authorities amid rising public anger over recurring attacks by armed groups and the perceived inability of the government to halt the violence
