According to the police, the suspect was seen driving at a dangerous speed during a live broadcast, leading to a motor accident that posed grave risks to himself and innocent members of the public.

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested and detained popular social media influencer Habeeb Hamzat, also known as Peller, following a viral video showing him driving recklessly while livestreaming, an act that resulted in a serious road crash.

The police said the incident occurred on Sunday, December 14, 2025, and described the suspect’s actions as “suicidal” and capable of endangering the lives of other road users.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer of the command SP Abimbola Adebisi, the police said Peller was taken into custody for further investigation after the video circulated widely on social media.

According to the police, the suspect was seen driving at a dangerous speed during a live broadcast, leading to a motor accident that posed grave risks to himself and innocent members of the public.

“His action constitutes a deliberate attempt to commit suicide and endangered the life of other innocent people,” the statement said.

"The case is currently being investigated by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID). The outcome of the investigation will be made public and the suspect will be charged to the court of competent jurisdiction in accordance with the law,” the statement said.

The police added that findings from the probe would be made public and that the suspect would be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.

Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, CP Olohundare Jimoh, issued a stern warning to social media influencers and content creators, cautioning them against using online platforms to promote or engage in reckless, dangerous or unlawful conduct.

"The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State CP Olohundare Jimoh, strongly warns social media influencers, content creators and general members of the public to desist from using social media platforms to engage in or promote reckless, dangerous, or unlawful and criminal acts,” the statement said.

“Such lawlessness will not be tolerated and the full weight of the law will be applied on any offender. The Command further urges all road users to comply strictly with traffic regulations and remains committed to ensuring public peace and safety at all times.”
